Four Prime Considerations When Buying Metal Roofing
Thinking about buying metal roofing? Well, there are a number of things to think about that can make a major difference in what it is you actually buy. However, there are perhaps four primary points to carefully consider. These factors include: 1. The Type of Metal Roof best for you and your budget 2. The thickness of the material metal 3. The paint finish 4. The warranty
With these four issues in hand you will be well on your way to buying metal roofing you want and for the budget you have in mind. 1. The Metal Roof Type When buying a metal roof we can narrow the type down to the two most popular. The exposed screw paneling is probably the most popular followed by the snap lock or standing seam, where the fasteners are hidden. The exposed screw panel is the more economical and typically comes in a 36 wide panel in any length(s) you need. The snap lock comes in various widths but the most economical tends to be the 16 panel. Many feel the snap lock has cleaner lines, looks better and does have the benefit of greater wind resistance. 2. The thickness of the material metal As you know metal thickness is measured by gauge. The thicker the metal the lower the gauge number. The exposed screw typically comes in 26 or 29 gauge the higher the number the thinner the metal. Cost of course is driven, at least in part, by the thickness of the metal used. On the other hand the snap lock roof is typically 24 or 26 gauge. The more metal used the higher the price. Also, the snap lock roof has hidden fasteners and is less prone to wind uplift than is the 36 panel exposed screw roof. 3. The paint finish Metal is coated with numerous layers, paint being one of the finish layers. A Polyester painted coating will fade much more quickly than a Kynar or Hynar paint finish. The better the paint quality the better the warranty and the longer your roof will last and hold its original look. 4. Warranty The warranty received has a great deal to do with the above issues. Since metal will last forever it is not warranted, your coatings and paint finish are what is warranted. You may receive a 10 year fade or a 35 year fade warranty depending on how the metal is treated. Note the differences in the warranties of the roofing you are considering as that may be well worth paying more dollars. Well, theres a beginning of your considerations when buying metal roofing.
