Gutter Systems, and Snow Guards
Gutter systems can be a pleasant added feature to your home which provides a comfortable benefit, if you live in an area that receives a little rain from time to time. If you do not already have rain gutters and downspouts, or, if they are in bad shape and need replacing, or you just want a color change, they can supply a few nice benefits. You may enjoy diverting rain from dripping on your head, at least when entering or leaving your home. In other areas, such as landscaping, they may be helpful in preventing damage caused from pounding water flowing off the roof. Rain gutters can be used to divert water from puddling in unwanted areas near your home. Or, use them to keep water away from draining into your basement or crawl spaces. Seamless rain gutters can make a run of up to 40 feet before a downspout is required. Shorter runs are made where the roof pitch is steep or when the roof surface requires it due to the volume of water to be handled. Talk to a knowledgeable contractor about water loads for your gutters and downspouts and the recommended solution. Look for a seamless gutter contractor. Snow Guards If you live in a snow area you will need snow guards on your metal roof above gutters, doorways and roof penetrations. Snow accumulated on a metal roof turns to ice underneath and then slips off in large, unruly and potentially dangerous quantities. Accumulated ice and snow can wipe out rain gutters when it releases and falls to the ground. Accumulated snow and ice can shear roof penetrations, and often do. A short section of snow guard will protect your roof vents and pipes from ice slides and can end up saving you some money and a great deal of aggravation. Snow guards will slow the decent of ice and snow and avoid wiping out your gutters, or personal injury to some innocent bystanders. Snow guards will turn ice into a slow trickle and stop the sudden unexpected drop of ice laden snow from a metal roof.
