Metal Roofing Drip Edge
Metal Roofing Drip Edge is designed to keep water from backing up under the edge of your roofing and off of the fascia board. Typically Drip Edge is a strip of metal, usually 10 feet long, and 4 inches wide with a bend in the middle, along its length. It is fastened under the first layer of roofing at the eve's edge, onto the roof about 2 inches. It is bent at an angle to match the roof pitch and to hang over the fascia board, about 2 inches. On the fascia board side it lies flat on the fascia but has a slight bend in the last 1/4 inch or so, length wise, away from the house, to scoot the water away from the fascia board and house. When you do a

or a standing seam, the drip edge can be a little different. If you hem the panels edge at the eve the hem hooks onto the drip edge giving the roof added protection from wind getting under the panels. It looks a lot better too, hiding the white underside of the panels. In this application the drip edge has an added bend. Where it goes up onto the roof, instead of laying flat on the roof, it doubles back, or bends back allowing the roof panel to then hook into it. Drip edge is a necessary component to your roofing project adding a little more protection to your home from the elements. Although the most popular colors for drip edge is white and brown it does come in various colors. For your asphalt roof the material is typically 29 gauge. For a metal roof the gauge varies and you should buy the drip in the same material as your roof in order to prevent any chance of a reaction between dissimilar metals. Plus, your colors will match.
