The Best Metal Roofing Insulation
6. Do I need to add insulation to my roof? And, if so, What type or kind of insulation do you recommend?
Interested in the best metal roofing insulation? First, Do you need to add insulation? Well, I'm of the persuasion that added insulation will almost always save energy expenses! Therefore, adding insulation is always a good idea. Well . . . almost always. Our recommendation? Low-E Reflective Insulation is our insulation of choice, by far! Unlike the "bubble wrap" reflecting insulation the Low-E Reflective Insulation has a Class A fire rating. This is ginormous (well ... very BIG!)when it comes to protecting your home. Low-E is not only the best roofing insulation but it is excellent for other insulating needs as well. Low-E Reflective Insulation is one of the best possible products on the market to reduce energy costs. It's very easy to use, light weight, and will reflect 97% of the sun's radiant heat away from your home. And ... don't forget about that Class A fire rating! Reflecting 97% of the radiant heat off the surface of your home is a huge advantage. This will keep heat from accumulating in your fiberglass insulation and then re-radiating into your home later in the day. Results - you save big time on both your cooling AND your heating bills. Metal roofing insulation can be accomplished in one of three different ways with the Low-E Reflective Insulation. Check it out!
1. Place the Low-E
on top of your underlayment.
You will need to create an air space between your roofing materials and the Low-E. Go to
this link for additional details
on Low-E and its use for Metal Roofing.
2.
Drape the Low-E between your rafters
with the metal roof materials laid on top. This application will easily create the needed air space.
3. After the roof is complete
install the Low-E between your roofing rafters
16” or 24” oc.
Although the manufacturer recommends an air space, as noted above, we know of at least one contractor claiming success installing asphalt shingle directly on the Low-E.
