Metal Roofing Panels

Metal roofing panels are designed for agricultural, residential and commercial applications. Although panels may be designed and recommended for certain specific uses panels are used for multiple purposes within the industry. In other words you can be creative to some extent.

Most paneled roofing comes in 12 to 36 inch panels, in width, and up to 40 feet long. Although panels have a wide range of costs, due to the many options offered, this category is the lowest cost metal roofing.

This tends to be the most popular style for residential purposes. Panels are one continuous piece from the eve up to the ridge. Be careful here! Once you go over 20 or 30 feet in length you can imagine the problems you can get into that could lead to damaged panels. At this length they begin to become difficult to handle, ship and install without damage. Panels over 25 feet can bend at will, they may buckle and can dent very easily and need two or more people to try to keep them straight, behaved and obedient.

The 25' problem can be easily solved. If you need a run over 25 feet it is possible to use two pieces with a transition piece tying the two together. The transition piece is designed to keep water from backing up under the roofing. This particularly works well when there are two different pitches in one run. For example, we see that happen when a porch or covered deck extends beyond the living space. Using the transition piece between two levels or different pitches although ideal is not necessary. Basically you can go as long as you need to. We have done metal roofing panels over 70 feet but they were made on site and it took 5 guys to man-handle them.

With the metal roofing Panels there are a number of aspects to consider, each of which will drive price. Following is a list for your review.

Metal Thickness
Metal Thickness on the one hand you have Durability. On the other, cost, the thinner the metal, or the higher the gage, the lower the cost.

Gauge Thickness
Gauge Thickness within any given gauge varies throughout the coil used to make paneled metal roofing. Why?

Hidden Fasteners
A Hidden Fastener style has greater resistance to wind and better curb appeal. Have Metal Roof Panels, or Snap-Lock Roofing made in your back yard, literally!

Exposed Fasteners
The Exposed Fastener roof is lower cost due to less labor and usually thinner metal.

Degree of Reflectivity
The higher the reflectivity the lower your energy bills and a more efficient home.

Metal Roof Accessories
Review Metal Roof Accessories to lessen your surprise factor in terms of additional items needed beyond the obvious roofing materials.

Colors of Metal Roofing
Colors of Metal Roofing are many and varied from one manufacturer to another.

Snap Lock Metal Roofing
Snap Lock Metal Roofing or the standing seam roof is on the high end of the Panel type metal roofing due to the hidden fasteners, thicker gage and narrower panels making them more labor intensive. The exposed fastened panels are usually 36 inches wide. The Snap Lock is 12", 14" or 16" wide for residential applications. The 18" panel is for commercial building primarily.
