Other Low-E Uses

House Wrap
Other Low-E uses include using the Micro-E for a House Wrap With this application you are using one of the most effective ways to radiate 97% of the sun's heat away from your structure. At the same time 7 R-Value is added to your home.

While this application cost more than the traditional house wrap you gain at least 5 advantages with the Low-E, Micro-E product. The advantages with Low-E are:
1. The reflective value we already spoke of
2. Added R-Value
3. A product with a Class A fire rating, and
4. A more comfortable home, plus
5. Lower energy bills.

The advantages gained are well worth the added initial expense as the pay back will last as long as you own this home!

Attic Blanket
The Attic Blanket is simply laid over your existing attic insulation. Prior to doing this some folks will blow more insulation into this area to increase R-Value. In many parts of the world R-49 is recommended in the ceiling or attic space.

The added Attic Blanket will keep the radiant heat from building up in your existing insulation. The result will be a cooler living space below as the current insulation will not build up heat and transfer it into the area below.

This is a very simple install but I would recommend doing it in the cooler season. Again, the product used comes in a 25 pound roll which covers 500 square feet.

Slab Shield / Under Concrete
The Slab Shield is made specifically for a radiant heated floor. It is designed to radiate heat from your system back up into the room keeping heat from trasferring through the concrete and into the ground below.

Many contractors use a 4' by 8' insulated stiff board for this purpose which comes in various thicknesses. The Low-E product is, again, a flexible roll of 99% pure aluminum, this time sandwiched between two thin layers of poly foam.

The light weight, flexible roll makes it easy to cut and install. Slab Shield will form to the surface you are applying it to and allows you to pour concrete directly on top after laying down the plumbing for your heating system.

Metal Buildings
Click here for information on "Drape Insulation" which is an ideal application for both the roof and walls of metal buildings. This process will add insulation and provide a white interior finish all in one application.

Water Heater Blanket
Yes, there is also a kit available for the Hot Water Heater. This too is Class A(1) fire rated and is designed to reflect heat generated by the heater back into the heater itself. Since there is significant less heat loss energy savings are again realized with the Blanket.
